I undertook Programme Development for ‘The Sun’ (2022), an international touring installation proposed by Soundlands [link to logo], developing and securing partnerships as far and wide as Alaska, Australia, Nigeria, Norway, Thailand, Patagonia, Russia and Wales. The central concept of the installation is that the Sun is one of the fundamentals of human existence. It is a marker of time which can be seen (although not all the time) yet cannot be stared at, nor heard. The Sun is experienced haptically, but cannot be touched. It is proposed that the installation will tour over the course of a year to 24 partner venues across the globe. It is arranged into 24 longitudinal sections of 15°, each paired with a sound artist or music composer who is born, lives or works in the section.
As part of the development, I applied for and was awarded the British Council’s Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) Arts Cultural Exchange grant for six micro-commissions of musical compositions from musicians from SSA, and hosted an international webinar.
